Ledger — Getting Started Hub

A modern, secure way to take control of your crypto — setup in minutes, protect for years.

Overview

Ledger hardware wallets isolate your private keys inside a certified secure element. That means your keys never touch the internet — reducing risk from hacks and malware while giving you full ownership of your digital assets.

1

Unbox & power on

Open the package and confirm tamper-proof seals. Connect your device to a computer or phone using the supplied cable and power it on. The device display walks you through the initial prompts.

2

Create a new wallet

Choose “Create new wallet” to generate your 24-word recovery phrase. Write these words down in order — do not store them digitally. This phrase is the key to restore access to your funds if the device is lost.

3

Install Ledger Live & add assets

Download Ledger Live to manage accounts, install cryptocurrency apps on your device, and start receiving or sending assets. Ledger Live provides portfolio insights and transaction history in one app.

4

Verify & test

Always verify addresses and transaction details on your device screen before approving. Send a small test amount first to confirm everything is working as expected.

Security quick rules: Keep your recovery phrase offline, enable a strong PIN, download Ledger Live only from the official site, and never share sensitive details with anyone. Treat your recovery phrase like cash — if it’s lost or stolen, your funds can be recovered by anyone who has it.

Supported coins & integrations

Ledger supports hundreds of coins and tokens, including Bitcoin, Ethereum, major L2s, and many altcoins. You can also connect Ledger to popular DeFi platforms, third-party wallets, and NFT marketplaces to manage a wide range of on-chain activities while keeping keys secure.

Recovering your wallet

If your device is lost, damaged, or stolen, recover your accounts using your 24-word recovery phrase on any compatible seed-based wallet — including another Ledger device. This is the reason safe, offline storage of the phrase is essential.

Advanced tips

  • Use a metal recovery backup for fire and water resistance.
  • Consider a passphrase (25th word) for an additional layer of separation between accounts.
  • Keep firmware updated — Ledger Live notifies you when updates are available.
